One week.....and presents!!!

Well although it doesn't seem like it, I have been here one week already!

WOW!

And to celebrate, coincidentally, I was given some footwear from Press Office! Sample sizes of a brand called Umbro by Kim Jones were up for grabs, and I just happen to the size shoe that is used in ALL mens shoe samples! HAZZAR!

K-town...The first cut is the deepest....

Today Dane and I went to K-town, the Korean district of New York. We had a delicious authentic meal and then wandered about.

Later that day we strolled to Central Park, new york pizza in hand, and ate on the rocks, catching a baseball game while the sun was going down. We heard music in the distance, went to check it out, and low and behold it was Cheryl Crow playing in the local ampitheatre.

Another fantastic and spontaneous day in New York!

Stop the PRESS....Internship #2

Thanks to my investigatory skills through the Karen Walker website, and partly with Julia Hannon's help yet again, I had a phone interview and many email conversations with Press Office Ltd before arriving in New York.

"We are looking for qualified interns for placement in our fashion PR firm. We represent several fashion designers including Karen Walker, Lover, Dunderdon, Hansel from Basel, Andy Warhol Factory x Levi's x Damien Hirst, Umbro by Kim Jones, Built by Wendy, and Hooch in USA. We do seasonal press and sales in addition to producing special events, fashion shows and seasonal launch parties. Duties include, but are not limited to: daily errands, mailings, data entry, maintaining the showroom, and assisting in the everyday workings of the office. We feel that this is a very special firm that would be great for a student interested in developing strong communication and organizational skills along with being exposed to a very fast paced fashion environment"

I secured a place before arrival in New York, thanks to some twat not getting back to the team. Their loss, MY GAIN!

It was my first day today and it was very exciting. I hand delivered gift bags to important fashion writers, received and sent out samples to magazines and stylists, organised the showroom and went uptown to drop off lookbooks for someone at town and country magazine. Very much like what is portrayed in movies like Devil Wears Prada. The best part of the day was discovering that Karen Walker often personally calls the office, and was close friends with Cathy the managing director. WOW!

Internship #1

Thanks to the help of Julia Hannon (pictured) who put me on to http://www.freefashioninternships.com/ , I finally met in person and had a chat with Annette Bibby Oliver today, an owner of a multi-site showroom. She comes from a successful image and wardrobe consulting career, and is now diversifying into sales, marketing and PR.

"New Multi-Brand showroom is looking to find enthusiastic and hardworking interns, to assist in sales, marketing/ branding, wardrobe and image consulting. Interns will gain priceless hands on experiences, working alongside season veterans in the fashion and entertainment industry."

The company has already picked up some great labels such as Laguna Beach denim, J Shoes, Cheap Monday & Nudie, with more to follow. Not to mention dressing stars like L.L Cool J, Ashanti and Heidi from The Hills!
This should be a fantastic opportunity for me, and just need to confirm availability, after another meeting on Tuesday.........Keep you posted.

Artsy Fartsy at the Met

Today I checked out the Metropolitan Museum of Art with Dane. What an amazing museum, we only saw about half the galleries, and all for only $2.50 each!

I will definitely be making a few visits here over the coming weeks as its a great place to lose yourself in the arts :-)

Sex and the City is ALMOST HERE

The movie comes out THIS Friday in New York and I cannot wait!

Sheep Meadow

Today we relaxed, with hundreds of others, under the warm rays of the sun in Central Park. It was such a lovely day, and a nice way to get out without too much effort. The park was packed solid being a public holiday today. Later in the day I strolled down 5th Ave, but thankfully many of the luxury stores were shut for the day.

Sunday Brunch / Sunday Drunk

Brunch is a long established tradition in New York. Its served here from 11am until 4:30pm!!!
Today we went to the Eatery which was fantastic. The trendy restaurant had a wicked atmosphere, the food was delicious, and the wait staff hit on us! A+
A walk in central park, a stint at Boat Basin, and then one foul american beer at Dead Poets. The night ended at Miccy D's for a McChief (quarter pounder + extra chicken patty)! TASTY!

Strolling Saturday

Its amazing that in a place like this, one moment you can be right in the thick of it, surrounded by lots of people, and the next be strolling down a quiet cobble-stone street

American Boy

Seems strangely appropriate that I discovered this song today, the day before my adventure begins

Packed and ready....

Less than 24 hours away and I will be off to New York. It still hasn't really hit me that I am going to NEW YORK!!!
